Making a push, WHIR

Postby smoothcats13 » Thu Jun 26, 2008 12:31 pm

Wanted to get someone else's analysis of my team. It's a standard 12 team, 5x5 roto league with 5 keepers every year. I am firmly entrenched in 2nd to last in saves and can not be caught or catch the guy in front of me, so that is not really a concern. I am in 3rd place right now, 5 points behind 2nd place (and 23 points behind the leader) and 4.5 points up on the 4th place team.

My biggest weakness is at SS, but Guzman is giving me plenty of runs and average. I would like to upgrade, but the cost to get a good SS is just too high. To get the most out of my innings, I am only starting Kazmir, Halladay, Felix and Duchscher regularly. The other 3 SPs get used on favorable match-ups. Other thoughts?

C: J. Clement
1B: J. Morneau
2B: B. Phillips
3B: D. Wright
SS: C. Guzman
OF: C. Beltran, C. Crawford, J. Dye
Utl: C. Jackson
BN: J. Francoeur, C. Gomez, J. Keppinger

SP: S. Kazmir, F. Hernandez, J. Duchscherer, R. Halladay, M. Cain J. Sanchez, C. Kershaw
RP: J. Broxton, S. Casilla
DL: R. Soriano

everybody needs great pitching, not good...you have 3 great pitchers, and sanchez is pretty good but at times streaky...you could include a pitcher and prob conor jackson for a SS...francour has pop in his bat, and gomez will get you a bunch of steals...you could alternate them at utility

Thanks for hte help with mine.

Shortstops are hard to come by, especially in 12-team keeper leagues. i honestly think you'd have to mortgage the farm to get a quality one, and in the end its just not worth it. guzman will put up respectable numbers in a few categories. sometimes you can't have studs everywhere ;)

Does your league have A/B contracts? I would think someone out there out of the hunt would have a SS that they could give up. Otherwise, your team is okay.
