Cleveland manager Eric Wedge expects to break camp with Bob Wickman as their closer.
Wickman, recovering from Tommy John surgery, has not had any setbacks thus far, but he's not a weak fantasy bet. David Riske and/or Jose Jimenez can pick up saves if Wickman runs into trouble.
Glad to see that they are going to stick with what they said a couple of months ago.
Thanks for the update.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
I don't see Wickman as being as effective as Riske. Wickman was never really great except for one season. To me he seems like a sort of Rocky Biddle, take over the role because nobody else there can do it kind of guy.
I think he'll have some trouble getting used to pitching in pressure situations since it's been a while since he's been really effective - 2001. Riske should take over at some point IMO.

wickman has never been a stud closer, but the job has been his, and hes always done an excellent job closing. he is in NO WAY like rocky biddle, and the job is rightfully his.

I agree; never a stud, but relatively effective nevertheless. He was a very good reliever from 1997-2001 (most of them as a closer) with 2002 being a down year (maybe due to early effects of his injury?).
I think Wickman will keep the job, but if he screws up the job will be quickly handed over to soon-to-be-elite closer David Riske. If you get Wickman it would not be a bad idea to pick up Riske.
