Oliver Perez headed to bullpen?

Postby soty » Wed Jun 25, 2008 9:04 am

Here is his latest Yahoo note (Rotowire):

Jun 25 Perez, who allowed six runs - five earned - in five innings in the Mets' 11-0 loss to the Mariners Tuesday, could be in danger of losing his rotation spot according to manager Jerry Manuel, the NY Newsday reports.

Recommendation: "It could mean some tough decisions," Manuel said. "Could be lineup changes, could be rotation changes, could be all types of changes." Nothing has been set in stone, but given the way Perez, or coin-flip, as John Delcos of the Westchester-Journal News refers to him due to the fact you never know what you will get given his inconsistency, has pitched, moving him to a relief role and calling up Tony Armas Jr., who has pitched well at Triple-A would seem to make sense.

More to add, this time from Rotoworld:

Oliver Perez could be facing a demotion after being lit up by the Mariners on Tuesday night.
Perez has been wildly inconsistent so far this season, and Jerry Manuel says that the team will "have to address it at some time." Asked if that meant dropping Perez from the rotation, Manuel said, "I don't really want to get that far into it." Perez is 5-5 with a 5.29 ERA so far this year.

I would think getting lit up by the Seattle is grounds for immediate release.

Gotta love Scott Boras-- the Mets wanted to lock him up long-term in winter and boras said, "No, we'll go to free agency and see who the highest bidder is."

Haha yeah oops is right. I am sure that Ollie and Boras are both kicking themselves for not getting a deal done then. BTW it looks like he will miss going to pen for now. He is on as schedule to make his next start against the Yanks for those of you who still have him. !+)

The Yanks are such a bipolar offense and normally tend to get DOMINATED by lefties. Last year he faced Roger Clemens and simply shut the yanks down for 8 innings I believe... I wouldn't be to worried
