Gary Sheffield Recalled

Postby superjags99 » Tue Jun 24, 2008 4:29 pm

From Rotowire:

The Tigers recalled Sheffield (oblique strain) from Single-A Lakeland on Tuesday, the Detroit News reports.
Spin: It wasn't announced if Sheffield would play on Tuesday, but he should see the majority of playing time at designated hitter once he does return to lineup.

What do you guys expect from him the rest of the season?

Yippee, now that turd can push Guillen back to the 6th hole.

What to expect from Sheff? A couple weeks of crappy numbers and then a trip back to the DL. Personally I won't pick the guy up off waivers in my 10 team league.

I thought that this thread would go to the tune of "Gary Sheffield declared defective; massive recall announced as Gary Sheffields are pulled from fantasy baseball teams nationwide". To me, that was the first thing I thought of. :-/

But yeah, expect him to be Andruw Jones but not so bad. They basically have to play him because of the money he's getting, but he's going to stink it up. For some reason Leyland's going to be putting him in the 3 or 4 spot for the foreseeable future, which is going to kill the resurgent Detroit offense.

Batting 7th tonight so it looks like Leyland haven't completely lost his marbles yet! :-°

Forgot to answer the question. It really depends on how he looks this week. If his shoulder is healed, then he still has the bat speed to do some damage. Probably will get you 10 HR plus a handful of SB the rest of the season, BA around .260. And that is assuming he doesn't go back on the DL. Unless you have a roster spot, he might be worth a flier but hold off to see how he does the next few nights.

Im saying he is well worth the roster spot if you have one in 12 team leagues. He has too much potential over anyone else in the FA pool right now. I remember for so long last year he was like this and then just went on a huge tear. He is incredibly streaky.

I agree he's worth a speculative add if you have the room. The time off could have done nothing but help his shoulder, as well...

Looks like you were right.

Jun 25 Sheffield said after Tuesday's game that his shoulder "feels great" and pronounced himself 100 percent healthy, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Recommendation: Sheffield, who went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer Tuesday, missed four weeks with a strained oblique muscle in his side and has struggled all season to fully recover from offseason shoulder surgery. Sheffield said that the oblique injury "was a blessing in disguise -- it gave me a chance to sit down for 15 days and do nothing. I've always felt a responsibility to play no matter what my injuries were."

If nothing else, it can't hurt to keep an eye on him to see how true that is...
