Can anyone give an update on the closer situation.

I would like to know also, I think Mendoza would be great in the closer role this year, but last I heard it was committee.

alan embree should get the call for closer this year. mendoza doesnt have the heat that you need for a closer he is a contact pitcher and bringing him in with runners on isnt good embree can hit high 90's and hes a lefty to this would prove to be big especially against teams like yankees with giambi and with bonds when they play the giants in the world series this year

Unfortunately I believe the Sox when they say it's going to be a committee. Embree is likely to get a little more than his share as there are so many RH alternatives (Fox, Mendoza, Howry and Timlin) but it seems like they will go with the hot hand.

I also believe the Sox will start the season with a committee and spread the opportunities around fairly evenly - it wouldn't surprise me to see them wind up with one primary closer later on, though. Embree seems like the favorite, but anything can happen in this situation.

I think that what the sox will try to do this year is close by committee, but slightly lean towards embree. In my opinion, I think the sox should use 2-3 different closers per 5 save opportunites, going with embree 3 of the five, and then whoever is hottest the other two. Not only do I think that would work best for the sox, but it would give embree a respectable save total which would make him a good middle-of-the-draft fantasy pick.

I've heard the sox are interested in Matt Anderson. Anyone got any info on this?

Have not heard of them interested in Anderson, and it's not like he's an established closer anyway. Hasn't really been healthy long enough to close for a year. During a Spring game I heard that they might also throw Castillo into the closer mix...like they need another option....

Is taking Chad Fox starting to take an edge in the committee? Are they really going to use a committee the whole season?

So far this season, the entire bullpen looks like sh!t. I am very dissapointed in Chad Fox, he just recieved his second loss of the season walking in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth. Embree looked bad in his first game, and Mendoza was even worse than Embree. Hopefully they will all rebound, because they have some great talent there.
