eric byrnes overmatched at single A

those of you who were hoping that eric byrnes would find his 07 form after his hammy layoff and minor league rehab may want to re-think his value..sure it's only 12 ABs after a 17 day layoff BUT it is only single A ball and byrnes is 1 for 12 w/1 BB and 4 Ks...no SBs and one lone ground ball bingle

still shocked people took him at the rate he was going at based on one superb season but no numbers previous to them to indicate it would become a trend and not an aberration.

Never liked this guy. I guess if I got him cheaply the last two years then my opinion might be different but he is on the wrong side of 30, coming off a huge year so I avoided him like the plague.

Well I am one of those guilty ones who reached for him and spent a mid draft pick on him. But I got him mostly for a his SB potential. Yea, he had a career year last year but that was mostly for his HR and SB production combined. I have no doubt that he may never hit 20 HR again, but I think 15 is realistic. Prior to last year, he did hit 26 HR in 2007. He also had a career year in SB but I think the SB regression is much lower than a HR regression. He had 33 SB after the break last season, so if he is fully healthy, I don't see why he cannot contribute 25 SB this year. Optimistic? Definitely. But not too many OF can hit 15 HR and throw in 30+ SB per season. Stats like that are great for roto if you can take the low BA hit, but definitely stay away from Byrnes if you are in H2H. He is too much of a streaky hitter.

Have him in one league, and it was a WW pickup, as someone dropped him. For that price, I see no reason to not hold on and see what happens. I avoided him at all costs too, and wishes he shows something so that he may be delt, otherwise, we'll see.

I think it means the team made a terrible mistake by signing him to that contract, so they might as well play him. Only if the Dbacks could go back a year and rethink Byrnes vs. Quentin.
