How will the Cubs fare in their division this year?

Postby ironman » Mon Mar 03, 2003 5:32 pm

My preseason predictions have them getting 4th in the Central. Here's how I have it stacked up.

1. Houston
2. St. Louis
3. Cincinnati
4. Chicago
5. Pittsburgh
6. Milwaukee

What do you guys think?

Looks about right to me but I've got Chicago over Cincy.

Hey its still spring and I'm saying they can win the division! (as every true Cub fan would at this time of the year ;-) ) Ask again in late April and the response will be more realistic like just edging out Cincy for 3rd. BUT heres to the high hopes of spring :-D

Im a sox fan born and raised but I gotta say this. The cubs are clearly the red sox national league brethren. I want the cubs to excel and I think they will battle huston and the cards. They might end up in third but it will be pretty close and they wont fall out of it till late. Also dont be discouraged by a slow start. These kids you got are quick learners and will be 10 times better by midseason. Goodluck cubs

It's good to see a Sox fan with such good will toward the Cubs. Most Sox fans I know will take any opportunity to make fun of the Cubs, and to kick a Cubs fan in crotch when he's down. And I have to admit that it's usually mutual. Not many Cubs fans root for the Sox either.

That said, I wanted to say that I'm really excited about the White Sox's chances this year - they're looking good. I'd root for them harder if I didn't expect about 10 of my most annoying friends to drag out the "I told you so's" in October if the South-siders win a pennant and the Cubbies take 5th place again.

Red not white!

Postby red_freedom » Fri Mar 21, 2003 12:11 am

well i meant red sox. The white sox are not a likable team as far as im concerned. Plus, they may win the pennant cause the devisions so weak, but they arent going anywhere after that. The white sox are awful and koch is a joke. I think the cubs will get 2nd or 3rd this year. Cinci's starting rotation is a joke. goodluck

Oh, that's too bad. I guess I wasn't a witness to the first good-willed White Sox fan... ;-) Really, though, the south-siders don't look that bad this year. They've got a lot of talent and if they stick together and avoid controyversy, they might be challenging the Red Sox for that Wild Card spoit... :-D Actually, I think it's probably impossible for an AL Central team to get the WC, but the White Sox could potentially stumble into the division title.

I think we are witnessign the begining of the cubs team that will be very good for very long. Prior is the real deal and Kerry Wood, a real ace on most teams, will be thier number 2 next year. clement and zambrano are amazing and who cares who thier number 5 is at that piont. Though if pena comes throuhg this staff will get the team into the playoffs every year. Frankly I cant wait to see it. I think thier bats are too green to make the series this year. But next year and certainly in the future... They jsut need to replace sosa soon and keep all their pitchers. Goodluck cubs
