I wouldn't call him an impact callup (he's been in the majors for about 2 weeks now). He doesn't have great stuff but he could grow to an innings eater in the future.

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see one of the 5 college closers taken in the 1st round (Cashner (ChC), Fields (SEA), Perry (DET), Schlereth (ARZ), & Gutierrez (MIN)) this year make it up especially if a contending team wants a power arm in the pen.

Looks like Perry is already rumored to be called up in Sept.

I could see Gamel getting a shot sooner rather than later. I don't think Branyan is the answer at 3rd for them.

He may not be, but Gamel's no answer either, his fielding is atrocious and not improving.

Its weird. I've read some reports that Gamel is athletic enough to play 3B but he just doesn't look comfortable doing it nor does he seem to understand the position and makes those errors because of it. But with the LaPorta trade, the Brewers have room in RF for next year with Hart in CF and Braun in LF as Mike Cameron is a pending-FA in CF and might get too expensive.

BTW, Yahoo's Brad Evans sees Gamel getting a call-up soon...

I guess they put up with Braun there for part of a year, so maybe they could deal with Gamel. Does he have the arm for right?

Regarding Maybin, it looks like he just had a small setback:

Jul 6 Maybin has been placed on the DL for Double-A Carolina with a muscular injury in his back, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

Recommendation: He hurt himself on a swing Thursday. The injury isn't thought to be too serious, but at the same time the Marlins began making inquiries about players like Wily Taveras and Scott Podsednik afterwards, an indication that perhaps Maybin was close to being called up before getting hurt.

Doesn't sound like he'll miss much time; if FLA is smart they won't rush him back.

I think if you have an arm for 3rd you should be okay for right.

St. Louis just called up Jamie Garcia from AAA. He's likely the best arm in the STL system and he does have top of rotation talent.

Cardinals purchased the contract of LHP Jamie Garcia from Triple-A Memphis.

Garcia replaces Mark Mulder on the roster and was a starter at Triple-A, but may see some action out of the bullpen initially. The 22-year-old southpaw was 7-6 with a 3.73 ERA and 98/41 K/BB ratio in 103 2/3 innings between Double-A and Triple-A. He projects as a potential mid-rotation starter long term, but shaky control may keep him from thriving in the majors yet. Rotoworld
