Take a break from your 2004 scouting, trading & drafting for this fun game.
Pick the best historical all time fantasy baseball team. Pick any guys from any years and build the best. Use a player only once per team, so pick his best season. Select 9 pitchers. 2 Catchers. One each: 1B-2B-SS-3B. Two IFs. One each: LF - CF - RF. Two OF's. One DH/UT.
Make sure you use REAL fielders for left, center, right...none of this all RFs. Display the year you're using for each player too.
We'll need totals for: Runs, Homers, RBIs, SB, Avg., OPS.,
We'll need totals for: Wins, Losses, SO, SV, ERA, WHIP
I did this back in 1992. There have been some monster all time great seasons since then, so I bet my team will need some updating which I intend to do this week.
Originally I used these guys: Ruth, Gehrig, Hornsby, Banks,Cobb, DiMaggio,Williams, Foxx, Sisler, Walsh, W Johnson, Ekersley, Feller, and more... some targets to go for 581 HR, 2212 RBI, 162 SV, .359 Avg. See? Ain't that awesome?
Who are you gonna use?
I love to hear the MOANS and GROANS of my competetors when I take their draft pick one round too early.
Heres the starters that I used back in '92 and some thumbnail stats for their years.
Walsh '08 40-15 269K 1.42 ERA
Gibson '68 23-7 268K 1.12 ERA
W Johnson '13 36-7 243K 1.09 ERA
Koufax '65 26-8 382K 2.04 ERA
Carlton '72 27-10 310K 1.98 ERA
Feller '46 26-15 348K 2.18 ERA
that's a team ERA below 2.00!
Anybody done better since?
Can Leonards excellent season replace any of these? Awesome ERA but too few Ks to fit in...?

I don't have a full team yet, but Want to say one of my RP would be
Eck in 1990: 4-2 with 48 SV a 0.61 ERA and 0.61 WHIP with 73 K. He had 4 walks in 73 1/3 IP!!!!!!!
*edit*
Here are my starting 5 as of right now.
Charley Radbourn 1884 - 59 W 441 K 1.38 ERA 0.92 WHIP
John Clackson 1885 - 53 W 308 K 1.85 ERA 0.95 WHIP
Guy Hecker 1884 - 52 W 385 K 1.80 ERA 0.87 WHIP
Charlie Buffington 1884 - 48 W 417 K 2.15 ERA 0.99 WHIP
John Ward 1879 - 47 W 239 K 2.15 ERA 1.03 WHIP
That totals out to 259 Wins 1790 K 1.87 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP
I probably should take out Ward and put in an ERA guy, funny taking a guy out for a High ERA with a 2.15 ERA.

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. -Crash Davis
Stewie : [watching a baseball game] Why does that man drop his club before he runs? I would bring it with me!
if fishnuts wants another pitcher and can take anyone from any era - Jack Chesbro had a pretty good 1904.
41-12 record, 239 K, 1.82 ERA, 1.06 WHIP - he did pitch alot of innings and only accounted 239 K's - but his ERA, WHIP and Win total would be nice to have.
