Aviles?

With SS as shallow as it is this year, Aviles is sure to draw attention.
As B-Fun aptly pointed out, he is a bit of a defensive liability but sports a heavy bat. Aviles hit 17 HRS last year along with a very good average and half a dozen SB. He has already hit 10 HRs this year in the minors while leading the PCL in RBIs along with a very good average.

Seeing he is a defensive liability, will he stick?
Thoughts?
Projections?

His competition is Tony Pena, Jr....he BETTER stick. KC would be better served trying to boost their offense than their defense, so they can probably spare the mediocre glove work. He's had a good start in the 12 games he has under his belt this year, but a troubling stat I'm just noticing is only 2 BB in 47 PA. He's a pretty good contact hitter, though. But in the end, he was called up out of desperation to help the Royals' offense, since just about any SS on any AAA team could out-hit Tony Pena, Jr.

And regarding job security, if the Royals do wind up trading Grudzielanak, Aviles would most likely take his spot for the rest of the season barring a huge slump.

How are you struggling big time with Theriot? He's the #8 ranked SS in Yahoo right now. Lots of runs, SB, good AVG...

If you're hoping Aviles will be better than Theriot, you may be disappointed by years end...

I'm in points league. Theriot is giving me an average of 2.8 while Aviles is 3.4.

2.8 is garbage... considering everyone that's good is around 3. In my league he's ranked 128 overall I think and has been dropping since May (his best month) so this month he's 338. Aviles is ranked 24.

With 70 games to go...

I've been nursing Tulo back to health, but I wonder if Aviles might outperform him post ASB.
