Will Brian Fuentes be traded?

Postby Triplec223 » Mon Jun 16, 2008 2:35 pm

Every time somebody brings up Brian Fuentes around here, somebody always chimes in that he is a good candidate to be traded before the deadline. I really don't know where that's coming from, considering Colorado's bullpen isn't really in good shape. The only note I've seen about trade talks w/ Fuentes has been that the Cubs aren't interested in him. Other than that, I've heard nothing.

I'm just interested to hear where these trade talks are coming from. If anyone can shed some light on the issue, I'd be pleased to sell him before he gets traded. Otherwise, he's a pretty decent CL option.

It will depend on where the Rockies are near the deadline. Since they just tied up a lot of money in Corpas and since Fuentes is not likely to be re-signed, if they are not in the playoff race they probably should trade him for something. No sense in holding on to him all year and get nothing if you aren't making the playoffs anyway.

That's where the speculation comes from.

People expect him to be dealt because
1. Rockies are out of contention
2. He's a FA at the end of the season
3. The Rockies were shopping him last off-season

Fair enough. I'm just assuming he'll wind up somewhere as a setup man if traded, so is it a good time to sell high?

If you can get some good value out of him and can stand losing the SVs, I'd try to trade him. Wouldn't just give him away cause you never know what will happen.

4. Casey Weathers is their closer of the future (I guess that somewhat follows #2 in that they don't plan on keeping him long-term).

5. Quite are few teams are allegedly salivating over him, so they should get something worthwhile for him.
