Sit tight, or blow it up?

Postby Inukchuk » Sun Jun 15, 2008 9:05 am

I swear my team looks great, but I've been in the basemant all season. Currently 9 of 12 in 5x5 standard. What's the problem (aside from the 12 guys that have spent time on the DL)?

C Mauer/Posada
1B Howard
2B Figgins/Casilla
SS Tejada
3B Reynolds/Zimmerman
OF Crawford
OF Abreu
OF Markakis
U Berkman

SP Webb
SP Bedard
SP ESantana
SP Duchscherer
SP Wainwright
SP (spot starters) Lilly, Baker, Rasner

RP Rauch

Send Abreu packing. Package him with Bedard and pick up a top 5 starter. Pick someone up off waivers/free agency to replace him, you won't miss much.

Also try and upgrade the back of your rotation and pay attention to where they're starting.

I think your problem is with a lack of depth in SP. You either need to spend a lot of time looking for spot starts from the FA list based on matchups, or you need to try packaging Abreu like others have said. I'd even considering trying to move Berkman for another ace and a serviceable utility hitter. Otherwise, it looks like you've just been plagued with getting guys having years below their projections, and you kind of have to just sit tight on those.

I feel like your offense lacks that power punch after howard. You have no person who is going to be a strong backup man to him as far as hr/rbi numbers are concerned. Abreu is a worse version of crawford without as many sb, and I feel like having both of those guys really hurts you. On top of that you have figgins who is worthless when it comes to power numbers and mauer who has seemed to lost his power stroke as well. I would like to see one more legit starter in there to sure it up. I am not sold on bedard also.

I have bad luck when it comes to signatures that the person either gets traded or this case I hope he gets traded.
