You all should move to the desert. No crazy weather here unless you count 118 degrees in the summer. Monsoons are fun but they're just big rainstorms. Winter is beautiful though if you can get used to putting up Christmas lights on your palm trees in shorts.

Agreed. I'll take tornadoes over hurricanes any day.
That's crazy talk. There are days of notice before a hurricane. A tornado drops on your house and you have less than 30 minutes warning.
Em, for those of us in Manhattan yesterday, it was more of a 1 hour warning(2 hours if you count the watch) before it tore up parts of the town, including a big chunk of the campus and one of my friend's house.

I've lived in Tornado Alley (or thereabouts) for 37 years and I've never even seen a tornado. I've seen more wall clouds than I can count but no actual twisters. So yeah, I'll take tornadoes over hurricane Andrew or Katrina any day!
We're getting battered by heavy winds about every third day in Lincoln. We've had seven inches of rain in about eight days, and some hail. So far we've dodged real damage here in my town, but there have been 12 or more tornadoes in Eastern Nebraska over the past few days, including two in Omaha a few days ago.
