Spilborghs to start playing CF regularly(er)

I guess I just wonder if those periphs are sustainable, given he's not that experienced.

probably wont sustain, but i think it will be quite good. in the minors his bb/k was .631. not sure how good that really is, but comparing to minor league numbers of some other guys:

Spilbourghs may not have a lot of experience for a guy his age, but he has had a couple stops in the minors where he put up a 1:1 K:BB, and has shown constant development in his plate discipline through his major league career.

2006 Ttl: 14:30 BB:K
2007 1H: 6:15 BB:K
2007 2H: 22:30 BB:K
2008 1H: 25:16 BB:K

And you can see how drastically the strikeouts drop and walks rise each year:

2006: 7.7BB% 18.0K%
2007: 9.6BB% 17.0K%
2008: 16.7BB% 12.8K%

Maybe his plate discipline won't stay quite this spectacular, but walks and strikeouts are about as non-flukey as any stats get. This looks like a real progression to me.

I've got a write-up today on Spilborghs here if you want to read more about him. I really think he's going to be one of the best waiver pickups for the rest of the year, as long as the Rockies are smart enough to keep Tavares out of the picture.

with willy running all over the place now, i highly doubt it'll be 75/25. id say 50/50 at the very best, but i still think willy will get more abs.

Taveras has the majority of the starts lately (actually, I believe he's started quite a few games in a row now), and he's doing a decent job. That five steal game on Saturday in Chicago shows that, when he does get on base, he's a huge threat. Now if he could only get on base more often...

Spilly hasn't been hitting very well lately either, and coupled with Taveras' improved play, he's getting less playing time. If the roles reverse again, I'd expect to see him get more playing time, but if not, only the occasional start in center along with spelling Hawpe against left handed pitchers in right field.
