"MLB.com reports that Braves 3B Chipper Jones has a slight tear in his right quadriceps and is likely to miss at least two games. Jones suffered the strain in the seventh inning of Saturday night's game against the Phillies at Turner Field. "It's pretty sore this morning," Jones said on Sunday. "We'll see when it gets better."
First of all, any kind of strain is technically a 'tear' in the muscle, 'tear' just sounds much worse than 'strain'. I'm sure there are many degrees of tears/strains all with varying lengths of healing required.

"It's pretty sore this morning," Jones said on Sunday. "We'll see when it gets better." He's obviously a risky play for the upcoming week. The Braves will have the benefit of the DH over the weekend and for three games the week after in Texas, so Jones owners might have caught a break here.
I wouldn't count on him much if any this week, but the fact that he can DH during interleague play this week, may allow him to get back earlier than if he was having to play the field as well as bat.
He's been dealing with quad issues for a while now, and he injured this and still played hurt and homered. Plus he is DHing all this weekend and most of next week. He is gonna continue to play and this really shouldnt be a long term problem.
...the injury to his quadriceps is the bigger concern. He missed Sunday's game and will likely be an injury risk the rest of the way. At his age, the risk of missing 2-4 weeks with an injury seems pretty high.
I don't know how much stock to put into this article however, as the writer also said Reynolds and Tracy were platooning in AZ, which is not true either...

Does anyone know any more about the status of my boy Chipper? The good thing about his being out is his BA gets to stay at .420 (Im a stoner so I think its great) Anyways atm I do not have a backup 3b and wondering if I should grab someone, but thats a question for another forumn.
Slight tear does sound worse. It only takes one misstep to turn it into a full tear. He could barely jog decently down to first after his walk last night. The Braves should be REAL cautious until he is at least 90% healed. We know about his brittleness already, and going from a standing position at home to a running/jogging one heading to first after a ball put into play could be enough to rip it even more. Even as a non-Brave fan, and a non-owner of Chipper in fantasy, I respect him enough to not want to see him go down.
News: Jones (quad) walked as a pinch hitter in Tuesday's loss to the Cubs. Jones took batting practice before the game and hopes to return Wednesday, the team's official web site reports. [-] Impact: We still think the Braves keep him out of the lineup the next two days and use him as the DH on Friday, but he's showing progress from a small tear in his right quadriceps

This is from the Fantasy News on Sportsline:
Chipper comes in to pinch hit: With Chipper Jones, batting .420, missing his second straight start with a small tear in his right quadriceps, the Braves put Omar Infante into the lineup at third against the Cubs Tuesday. He had a leadoff triple in the second but was stranded and later added an RBI single. (Updated 06/11/2008). Injury Report Quadriceps - Questionable for June 11-12 at Chicago Cubs (Updated - 6/10/08) Fantasy Analysis Jones did pinch-hit in the seventh and drew a two-out walk to finish Lilly. Jones is obviously an injury risk start in all formats, but he might well only miss a few starts. If you have another, healthier option at 3B, you should probably start them this week and let Jones heal up.
