Says hes coming off the DL this up coming week possibly.... Soriano has the elbow troubles, Acosta has been awful and Mike Gonzalez was closing for Pitt late in 06 + was successful

Mark Bowman, of MLB.com, reports Atlanta Braves RP Mike Gonzalez (elbow) might see regular save opportunities when he returns from Tommy John elbow surgery. CL Rafael Soriano could potentially be a season-long question mark after he was unable to pitch Friday, June 6.

If you checkout the 2008 Closers thread the consensus seems to be Gonzalez will end up in that role. Hopefully this is the case, we'll see.

So of you guys are awfully quite to give a guy coming off TJ Surgery, who doesn't have a massive contract (BJ Ryan), the closers role. As long as Soriano isn't on the DL it'll probably be a committee. For one thing Gonzalez isn't likely to be able to pitch on consecutive days until after the break He hasn't pitched in a major league game since the middle of last year or earlier. Maybe he'll get the role to himself eventually but its not happening right away. If it happens it'll probably be after the break. Who knows he could flop like Liriano did coming off TJ Surgery.

I think the majority believes Both Soriano and Gonzo could flop this season. The difference is Gonzo is supposed to be "fixed" after his surgery. While Soriano will have lingering pain all season. Neither are a lock but I think many believe Gonzo is less likely to fall apart.

I hate this whole situation in Atlanta. I'm ready to just wash myself clean of this messy situation... Soriano in and out, Acosta in and out, Smoltz looks set to be in, announces he's 100% out, Soriano back in, now maybe back out with Gonzo in... ugh.
