I'd like to mention Johan Santana here as a previously dominant second half player.
In 2005, he worked this half split:
Pre-ASB: 7-5, 143 K, 3.98 ERA, 1.05 WHIP
And in 2006:
Pre-ASB: 9-5, 138 K, 2.95 ERA, 1.00 WHIP
Post: 10-1, 107 K, 2.54 ERA, 0.99 WHIP
Now, things seemed to change in a "down year" of 2007:
Pre-ASB: 10-6, 125 K, 2.75 ERA, 1.03 WHIP
Post: 5-7, 110 K, 4.04 ERA, 1.12 WHIP
Most of that damage was done in Sep. (1-3, 35, 4.94, 1.23), but none the less, that's really odd.
And this year, things seem somewhat the same as '07:
7-4, 76 K, 3.08 ERA, 1.21 WHIP
Cause for concern? I know he's Johan Santana, but seriously, while these numbers are good they are not the first round quality that was rightfully expected from this beast. What's going on?
