Oddly the Cards have been quite mum on the subject. I was able to find this interesting article though

From CBS Sportsline today:

Cardinals RHP Adam Wainwright, out with a sprained middle finger on his pitching hand, was scheduled to have an MRI Tuesday. Wainwright said he expected to be told if he could begin throwing again, adding that he hoped to be pitching by the All-Star break, which is July 13-15.

This just went up on Yahoo:
Jul 7 Derrick Goold, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Cardinals SP Adam Wainwright (finger) was cleared to begin a light throwing program Monday, July 7. Wainwright had a magnetic resonance imaging exam Monday, according to general manager John Mozeliak. Mozeliak said they will give Wainwright a week to complete the throwing program and hopes that he can increase his intensity.

they expect him back after next week, but we'll see how his throwing program goes, these finger issues can be tricky...

While watching the Cards-Philly game on Wednesday, Orel Hersheiser reported during the game that Wainright had somewhat of a minor setback. I believe he said something like he couldn't grip the ball properly. And after checking the Cards website, they are disputing that report.

So I don't know what's going on here. :-o

ESPN again learned the pratfalls of having former athletes play journalists on television Wednesday when pitcher-turned-analyst Orel Hershiser said Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright's recovery from a sprained right middle finger hit a snag because Wainwright was still unable to grip a ball.

Wainwright actually completed a scheduled throw without complication Wednesday and remains on track to return from the disabled list in August.

Wainwright heard the report and issued a quick disclaimer in a text message to the Post-Dispatch that read: "Feel completely normal."

The Cardinals followed up Thursday with a medical report that said Wainwright felt great and would be re-evaluated after the All-Star break.

The target return date I keep hearing is Aug. 1st.

poor Orel... i'm cautiously optomistic about Waino coming back sooner than later... my roto team would KILL to have him back for two months... and i'm sure lots of head to head teams see him as a potential difference maker/wild card in their postseason competitions

everything's on schedule for Waino.. he will be doing long toss from 120 feet every other day until Sunday... then will start pitching from the mound next week. Barring any setbacks, he'll be back the first week of august...
