News: Wainwright has been diagnoses with a tear of a "pulley" that connects to his finger's flexor tendon, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Spin: Wainwright won't need surgery, and should be able to return in about three weeks, but he might have trouble gripping the ball upon his return.

Hopefully Guthrie can continue posting good numbers (minus the wins since he has no offensive support) since I grabbed him with wainwright on the DL.

The Cardinals have conservatively estimated that Wainwright (finger) will miss 40-45 days of action since his June 6 appearance, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Recommendation:
This is a bit more lengthy than the initial three-week diagnosis, and considering that the injury causes him to have trouble gripping the ball, it could be a frustrating second half for Wainwright and his owners.




Bad news.... I have 4 guys on the DL and only two spots... I may have to drop Wainwright... this injury could effect him for the entire season if, when he comes back...

More Bad news on Wainwright.... if it's true i may be forced to drop him, I don't have the DL spots to have him take up a roster spot if he's going to come back in August... and when he does it'll be still a lingering issue

There’s all kinds of bad news on the Adam Wainwright front. Two days ago the Post-Dispatch ran a story about the possibility of his finger injury staying with him for longer than expected:

“Lingering is the problem,” said Wainwright, who is 6-3 with a 3.14 ERA in 13 starts. “I cannot have this become a problem that I’m always dealing with. I know that. But I’m like this attack dog tied up. I want to get back on the field, get off the bench, but every time I jump at something I get strangled by this chain. I can’t believe I’m out with a finger injury. …


“I also can’t risk pushing it (too) fast.”

And now Viva el Birdos is reporting Wainwright will not return to the team around the All-Star break, as initially expected.

here’s a bit of news from a trustworthy source: the cards now view wainwright as being ready in no sooner than 6 weeks — could be longer, depending on how things progress. they do expect him back before the end of the year. 6 weeks from today would place wainwright back on the mound in the first week of august . . . .

so it looks like our worst fears (or almost worst fears) are coming to form. No Wainwright. That sucks!!!

well... no Wainwright until August... and even then... we won't know how he'll perform... I'm going to wait until I hear an "official" announcement until I make any serious decisions on Waino i.e. dropping him...

yea i agree besides espn i dont hear anywhere else about this injury. im still waiting for the official word from the team. as of now hes listed as out indef. Thats weird though as only espn has this and its been over a week since this annoucement
