something I don't understand with these updates on the internet... it stinks Wainwright's going to the DL, don't get me wrong, but the news that it's just a sprain is relatively good... but for some reason there is an undertone of cynicism in the prognosis as if the posts are saying "Wainwright should be back in two weeks... if the diagnosis holds up.." I'm usually critical of the Cardinal's medical staff, not sure if it's deserved, but wouldn't Doctors know if it was a ruptured tendon at this point?

This is what I'm talking about, Rotowire: The Cards are expected to get Joel Pineiro back later this week, but with Todd Wellemeyer (elbow) dealing with inflammation, they may need to promote a spot starter from Triple-A for one of the games later this week. For now, it sounds like Wainwright could be back from the DL as soon as he's eligible to return in two weeks.

this is all so bitter sweet, Holliday comes back to me... Wainwright leaves... uggghhh :~(

I knew something bad would happen, this just makes it official I had the touch of death for every SP I drafted.

Bedard (came off the DL and sucks)
Myers (just plain sucks, especially on the road)
Hill (screwed over by Sweet Lou and completely lost his confidence)
Gallardo (done of the season)
Wainwright (on the DL probably worse then the Cards want to admit)
Kennedy (late pick sucked, sent to the minors)

At least I got Volquez off the WW, but he somewhat sucked tonight. He'll probably give up 9 runs in an inning next time he pitches.

Oh well, $hit happens.

I drafted heavy on pitching, hoping to have the deepest staff in my H2H 10 team league. The draft order of my SPs is as follows:

Hamels - Stud
Smoltz - Done for season, maybe forever
Chris Young - Done for... maybe ever.
Liriano - Done for... mabye season
Gallardo - Done for season
Harden - DL early, but so far, so good
Randy Johnson - DL early and inconsistent, but I'm okay with him
Scott Baker - On and off DL all season
Ervin Santana - Savior
FA acquistion Volquez - Savior

that's what i'm worried about... I find it hard to believe that they don't know whether it's a ruptured tendon though... usually there's a numbing feeling and a qualified doctor can diagnose it quite easily.... or they could just use an M R I... ugggh

this is from the St. Louis dispatch... very helpful IMO to give us an idea of what's up... it's interesting that the cardinals have more or less told Waino not to elaborate on the details... more fodder for those of us who don't trust their medical staff... of course he did see a hand specialist on top of seeing their regular ortho man...

Wainwright met Monday with team doctor George Paletta and also saw a hand specialist. An MRI was taken of his right middle finger. The exam, the team's release said, revealed "a sprain to the finger." At the team's request, Wainwright referred any specific medical questions back to Cardinals officials.

I gotta believe the MRI would have revealed a ruptured tendon... and the article also says while he can't bend the finger the way he should be able to, there's no swelling... a ruptured tendon in the finger would swell!!!

last year they thought carp just needed elbow cleaning up too,

and Mulders shoulder was going ot be ok

they had to have two shoulder surgeries on Rolens one should (not counting the previous one on the other shoulder) onde year

not counting all the other stuff Ive forgotten, its been so rediculous as a fan of this team seeing what goes on with their med staff. They are either incompetant or the team just flat out lies.

I remember the second Rolen surgery was done by Cinys doc, and only after threating the team with legal action (or something like that) because he didnt want palletta to touch it again.

Yeah but you're talking about elbows and shoulders, both of which could mean numerous ailments which sometimes can't be easily diagnosed.

This is his finger we're talking about. There really isn't much there. Either he has a torn tendon or he doesn't. It's really that simple. We'll find out soon enough whether or not they're lieing, but honestly I don't see the point. I suspect it's a sprain and he'll be back in a couple weeks.
