Orlando Cabrera's Future

Postby OneLoveBoomer » Sat Jun 07, 2008 5:05 pm

Cabrera really hasn't been having a spectacular season thus far, and running up against Ozzie Guillen has gotten him in some trouble. That said, he's an FA after this season. The White Sox traded Garland to acquire OCab, so I assumed they wanted to resign him, but now that's looking iffy.

Just saw this in Yahoo news about Alexei Ramirez:

Jun 7 2B Alexei Ramirez continued to show improvement defensively at second base, but Joey Cora said that he will still work with him before batting practice, as the Sox have been giving him extra work in the field. In all likelihood, Ramirez will be the starter at shortstop next season, but they want him to be above average at second, as well.

So what'll happen to OCab?

OCab has actually been playing very well of late after slumping for the 1st few months of the season. I'm not sure about Ramirez playing SS but the fact that the White Sox drafted Georgia SS Gordon Beckham with the 8th overall pick and they expect Beckham to move quickly. So, I don't see Ramirez or OCab at SS longterm.
