So My Bruce Trade Was Vetoed

Postby ldmariodl28 » Fri Jun 06, 2008 8:47 pm

So my Bruce trade was vetoed. I was giving up Jay Bruce, and Yunel Escobar (Players the other guy wanted) for Roy Halladay & Carlos Guillen.

This was the post on the message board that the commish left:

"I agree with Mike that this trade is absolutely ludicrous. Trading a guy you drafted in the NINETEENTH round and some guy (even though he is "supposed" to be the next Ryan Braun) you picked off waivers a week ago for two established, proven all-stars in Cy Young winning Roy Halladay, one of the best pitchers in the game and another proven allstar like Carlos Guillen. I know you're in panic mode now that you've traded Webb but you'll have to do A LOT better than this to fill that void in obtaining Roy Halladay dude. This trade simply doesn't fly with me."

Were you guys colluding? No? Then the deal should stand.

Sounds like a guy that just doesn't wanna see any team get better.

I would think that is a bad trade for the other guy - but certainly no reason to veto. Looking at trades in terms of were players were drafted and what they have done in the years past is ridiculous.

Your commish is a idiot . Escobar most likely will end up with better numbers than Guillen and Bruce is this year's Braun minus the huge power. That trade shouldn't of been vetoed. His argument was that you drafted a guy in the teens and added a guy from waivers???? wow

Bruce may well be a stud this year, but anytime a guy that was on waivers a week before gets traded the veto-hammer may get wielded.

I understand, if not agree, with the call.

That's pretty ridiculous that was veotoed...it doesn't even matter what "camp" you're in...if you think you should only veto collusion, then it's not a veto...if you think you should veto profoundly unbalanced trades (a pretty subjective thing mind you) to protect the integrity of the league and for collusion, this is also not a veto...his logic is skewed.

A guy just traded Utley for Sheets and Nathan in one of my leagues...that left me with a bad taste in my mouth, but I didn't vote for a veto...even though I had made offers of Ortiz/Hart for Utley (pre-injury for Ortiz) and Volquez/Hart for Utley...he needed a 1B having only Hafner and Giambi...and he was starting Bill Hall and Francoeur in his OF...I thought we would both prosper...guess not. :-?

Count me in the group that thinks the other guy won the trade and the commish's veto is weak.
