in my league bb's and k's are categories for hitters. i was recently offered a trade for atkins, and i'm confused about these 2 stats this year. his avg is about where we'd expect, 8 homers seems about right, so these stats tell me he's not really in a slump....but his bb/k ratio of 9/36 is by far the worst we've seen from him over his career (not counting those 69 AB from 2003).
for the colorado fans or anyone that gets to see him play in person, any ideas for why this is happening? is it that he has no protection in the lineup this year (being pitched around)? is he not seeing the ball well but getting lucky in the avg and hr department? change in batting stance? or just a fluke? normally the bb/k stats dont vary too much year to year, so i'm thinking its not a fluke. thoughts?

The K:BB is a fluke, he's basically going to K 80-90 times and walk about 60-70 in a given year. He has great plate discipline, so don't be worried.

See above

He's pretty much by himself at the moment.

reason to worry: trade
reasons not to worry:
-stiff neck is not a long-term concern
-less lineup protection with Holliday and Hawpe out
-last 9 games have been on the road
-2008 splits: .330 home / .287 road
-05-07 splits: .345 home / .270 road
right in line
-this year through May: .312 8 HR 30 RBI
-last year through May: .225 3 HR 20 RBI

The team is a mess everyone is on the DL they have 6 different people in the lineup everyday. Rinse Repeat.
He'll be fine once Matty gets back. Hawpe is overrated IMO and K's way way to much for the 6 hole
I'm too lazy to make a sig at the moment
