OCRegister.comShields felt tightness in his left side while warming up Saturday. He pitched a scoreless inning that night but has not pitched since.
Neither has had an MRI on their injuries yet. That could be part of Yocum’s examination.
The plan, according to Angels manager Mike Scioscia, is to have the two rejoin the team in Oakland and “be available this weekend” — but the way things have gone for the Angels this season, don’t be surprised if one or the other lands on the DL.
“They’re making progress but before we ramp them up to playing in games again … you want to make sure there’s nothing in there that will set them back,” Scioscia said. “With the off day tomorrow, Ned (Bergert, Angels’ head trainer) thought it’d be a good idea to send them back and get things checked out.”
