First draft of the season: how do I look

Postby jdh » Sat Feb 28, 2004 8:51 pm

Finally turning my attention somewhat from football to baseball, this is my first draft of the season.

10 team h2h AVG, HR, R, SB, OPS, RBI, W, L, ERA, WHIP, K, Sv.

Here are my picks:
1.1 Alex Rodriguez
2.20 Miguel Tejada
3.21 Curt Schilling
4.30 Lance Berkman
5.31 Javier Vazquez
6.60 Mark Mulder
7.61 Brian Giles
8.80 Mike Sweeney
9.81 Eddie Guardado
10.100 Jose Reyes
11.101 Kazuo Matsui
12.120 Brandon Webb
13.121 Shawn Green
14.140 Armando Benitez
15.141 Jason Kendall
16.160 Eric Hinske
17.161 Carl Crawford
18.180 Juan Gonzalez
19.181 Braden Looper
20.200 Shea Hillenbrand
21.201 D'Angelo Jimenez

Once Reyes has 2B eligiblity and ARod has 3B eligiblity, this will be my lineup:

C: Kendall
1B: Sweeney
2B: Reyes
SS: Tejada
3B: ARod
OF: Berkman
OF: Giles
OF: Green
Util: K.Matsui

SP: Schilling
SP: Vazquez
SP: Mulder
SP: Webb
RP: Guardado
RP: Benitez
RP: Looper

Did I make any particularly good or awful picks? Do I have enough speed/power balance and pitching to win most weeks?

your pitching looks pretty solid, you might have to look at picking up another reliever since Benitez isnt a sure lock. Speed looks good since you can sub-out Kaz for Crawford if he is a bust. S. Green and Berkman will make our break your power out-put, will they hit 25 HRs again our rebound back to 35+?

I would try trading for a more reliable closer. Maybe move Matsui or Crawford, but not both.
