Second Basemen, Shortstops and Starting Pitchers

Postby Honus » Sat Feb 28, 2004 8:36 pm

If you could only keep one of the following second basemen:

Marcus Giles
Jeff Kent

And one of the following shortstops:

Nomar Garciaparra
Edgar Renteria
Kaz Matsui

Who would you keep and which starting pitchers would you try to get with the remaining 3 players?

Thanks! :-o

I forgot to add, non-keeper, 5x5 roto league.

Giles and Renteria seem to have the better balance of stats for 5x5 leagues. I gambled that Giles would fall through to the end of the 6th round in a 12 team league, and I was a round too optimistic. :-/

Keep Kent and Nomar for sure.

I'd keep Kent and Renteria. With Nomar and the rest you should get a top level pitcher...Foulke, Smoltz, Wood, Oswalt, etc.

Keep Giles and Nomar. You will be able to get more leverage off of Kent and Giles should still give you great numbers.

Kent, Rent and Matsui should buy you 2 top 10 starters and some.

I'd keep Giles and Renteria and trade away the rest for the best SP's you can get. Giles is for the most part under-rated by most casual fantasy owners; same with Nomar. But regardless I'd keep Renteria because I think he'll be the #2 SS behind A-Rod. You should be able to get some of the best SP's for Kent and Nomar, and get what you can for Matsui. I'm not so sure his Japanese stats will translate into success in the majors.
