Will the Rays win the AL East?

The Jays have a better pythagorean record than the Rays even without Vernon Wells. I wouldn't be counting Toronto out of winning the division, though I still can't believe they are content with the awful Shannon Stewart in left field. If they had actually signed Barry Bonds a month and a half ago when they released Frank, they would probably be 1st already. The pitching has been that good.

Of course I don't see the Yankees being out of it either. They can still pay for solutions to most of their problems, and will be happy to do so.

And Boston is still Boston. Maybe they'll actually have the guts to sign Barry Bonds.

On the Bonds issue, if Ortiz is out of the year and the Sox can't acquire Tex for a discount given his contract status then I honestly think they would consider Bonds. He can certainly hit/get on base and Fracona knows how to deal with personalities....but still, what a circus that would create (even bigger than it already is), it would certainly be entertaining to stay the least.

Injuries permitting, they can, but not sure if they will.
The Yankees are going to need a huge turn around in SP to compete, and Papi is a big crater in the Boston hitting.
It is quite possible that Papi will decide the whole division.

All I care is that they make the playoffs. I got 150:1 odds in Vegas before the season started on the Rays to win the World Series. Still a long shot, but you gotta like their chances now with those odds.

Too much talent in the AL East for the Rays to win it this year. I'm thinking down the line within the next 3, it's a strong strong possibility. But a wild card isn't completely out of reach for my Rays.

Who knows, with Pena playing quite poorly up until hitting the DL today, maybe the team will play better?

Why on earth would you think they will play better with the guy with the 2nd most RBI and most home runs on the team sidelined? He may be inconsistent, but it is fairly obvious that he is an important part of this team

If they can win with Crawford and Pena out then it proves a lot.
I honestly believe are team can get it together and make a good run, and if Ortiz is out for this long and really has the affect we all think, then that is the door opening in the East.
