Homer Bailey

Looks like Bailey could get called up to start next Thursdays game for the Reds. He is pitching today and hasnt looked good in 1 IP as he has given up two runs already. So this might hurt his chances a bit...who else could they call up? Fogg got nailed and might end up on the DL after just one start.

Bailey only went 2.2 IP today...gave up 3 hits, 2 ERs, 2 BB's, and 1 K. He threw a total of 49 pitches.

From Rotoworld:

The Reds are expected to call up Homer Bailey to start Thursday against the Phillies.

A tough assignment in what will be his 2008 debut. Bailey will get the call despite a poor May in Triple-A. He's well worth having stashed away in NL-only leagues, but the smart play would be to keep him reserved this week.

Does anyone expect him to have any value in 12 team mixed leagues? Right now looking at his numbers he looks no better then a stream option in only the most perfect conditions... but it would be nice to get some other thoughts.

He only went 2.2 innings because he was on a pitch count. The Reds are starting him Thursday, so this was a tune-up for him to get ready for that start. I dunno what type of value he will have, but the Reds have been lucky with young SP this year...Cuerto and Volquez. So maybe Baily can have a "Bruce-like" impact on the Reds.

Bailey had a nice outing on May 27th: 6IP, 6H, 1ER, 4BB, 4K
Nice, not great. He's been walking too many people lately and before that start, he had a string of bad ones. I certainly wouldn't start him against the Phillies this week.
