the other ? is, with casilla coming back and devine hurt, is it once again casilla 2nd in line behind street for saves?
Casilla actually has to come back first, but my take is that if Casilla is healthy, he now has the inside track over Devine, who might wind up being out for several months.
I think it is 90% that Street will gone by the end of July and that Casillas or Devine gets the nod. But you never know - Embree is still hanging around. The smart thing for the A's to do might be a two-headed approach (or even three-heaed with Embree) so that Casilla and Devine can get eased into the role for the future.
As for Street, if he is traded today he is probably not closing anywhere. However, if past is prelude, one or more contenders will have a closer spot open come the deadline, due to injury of a meltdown by an incumbant. I can't really remember a year where no contenders were shopping for closers, and with the wild card spot, 50%+ of teams will typically still view themselves as "contenders" at the end of July. I am pretty confident that Beane will hold Street until past the All-Star break to maximize his return.
Bottom line is that if I were a Street owner, I would not be too worried that the saves will go away at any point this season.
