Why is he so inconsistant. He has so many starts where he gives up 0 or 1 runs than so many others where he gives up 4+. And whats up with these last two starts he is getting shelled, is it an injury or is he just not as good as we all thought?
He might be hiding an injury, like Oswalt. He has great stuff and great control but it looks like hes injured. I traded my Hamels for Harang+Cano yesterday.
I don't understand why people expect a guy like Hamels to go out and pitch great every single time he goes out. You know, baseball players are human. They do have bad games from time to time. Let's overreact every time a pitcher has 2 or 3 straight bad starts or when a hitter goes 0-15 with 7 K's in 4 games. Relax, he'll be fine.
Hamels is an extreme flyball pitcher who does not have an overpowering fastball (it's usually 88-92, more typically on the lower end of that range). That means when he gets shelled, he really gets shelled. But because of his good control and outstanding changeup, he will have a lot of games where he can keep hitters off-balance, strike out a batter per inning, and not give up any runs.
Actually, the real reason for his past 2 poor starts is that I just traded for him. His last game before I got him: 11 K's; the 2 games he has been on my team: SHELLED. Sorry guys!

If Cole Hamels played center field he could make a running catch towards the wall, high-five a fan, eat his hot dog, drink his beer, steal his woman and STILL make the throw to home for the out.
