Justin Masterson

According to yahoo, Masterson will be starting Tuesday @ home vs. Tampa Bay since DiceK is down.

I've heard nothing but good things about this Justin Masterson. I guess he has some kind of killer sinker. And he's been solid in 2 major league starts. Any chance this guy is going to be around for a while, or will he get sent back down in 2 weeks when DiceK is back from injury?

He will probably be sent back down or utilized in the bullpen. Remember, in the long term the Sox probably will let Buccholz get more starts then Masterson. Expect Masterson to be in the rotation next season, however.

Use him as a spot starter if you can, but start looking for a replacement. Wouldn't count on him for more than 1 maybe 2 starts.
Here's the pitch on the way, a swing and a belt! Left field! Way back! BLUE JAYS WIN!

Any chance this guy sticks around? He has been lights out in 4 straight starts...

I doubt he sticks. Sox rotation looks like this:

Beckett
Dice-K
Lester

These 3 are must-stays

Wakefield (great as a 4th/5th starter because he's an "off-speed" guy, and because he eats so many innings)
Colon/Schilling/Buchholz/Masterson competing for a No. 5 spot

I really don't see him getting too many innings. Colon's getting paid a decent amount of money now that he got called up. Schilling will obviously be in the rotation once he gets back from injury (ego+contract+career history). I'm not even sure how the Sox are planning to get Buchholz innings this year, let alone Masterson.

However, as a Sox fan, I must say I LOVE the rotation depth, and the fact that four of those guys are pretty young...
