You know, if 100 games pass ,and he's just barely hitting 400 and the Braves aren't in contention, maybe they'll DL him to keep his BA and still have him eligible for a batting title. He's getting up there, and a BA title could help secure a place in the HoF.
This would never happen. The Braves and Jones would be ridiculed from sea to shining sea, and rightfully so. Anyway, it won't be a problem; the odds of a .310 career hitter batting .400 for even 3/4 of a season are astronomical.
agreed

in his defense, most of his .310 comes when he is hitting with a bad back. It's not the DL time that will hurt his .400 chances, it's the week before and the two weeks after the DL time that kills his average.
So yeah, he has a lesser chance of hitting .400 than he has of not getting hurt.

I agree that this would never happen (Like mcclusky and Yoda), and I also think it would be just fine if he hit .380 for a full season with a batting title instead of playing 2/3 of a season and hitting .400.

I think .380 is a stretch, even if he stays healthy all year. I'm thinking around .360 healthy, .345 if he gets hurt at some point.

Well to qualify for the batting title you need 3.1 plate appearances for every team game played. Assuming the braves play 162 games, Chipper needs 502 PA for it to count. It is pretty hard to get 502 pa in 100 games. Considering chipper averages about 700 plate appearances per 162 games, he would have to play at least 115 games to get to 502. They might sit him 4 or 5 games at the end of the year if he just over .400 and the games don't matter, but they won't sit him down for 40 games.
