Jerry Hairston Jr.

Postby verb1999 » Sat May 31, 2008 11:03 am

What's this guy's deal? I did a search and I only found one thread about the Jay Bruce call up, in which Jerry Hairston got ripped apart by a few people who mentioned his name. But his stats indicate he's making it happen, stealing quite a few bases, maintaining a stellar batting average, scoring runs (on a daily basis the last week or two), and RBI's here and there. Looks like he's 30, and hasn't started an entire season except maybe once with the Orioles about 6 years ago or so.

Does this guy have any fantasy value? I've been struggling with the SS position all year long, wondering if this guy is worth a shot for the long run? (In my particular league riding hot streaks isn't really an option, as we limit roster moves)

He's not a bad option for a MI spot but he's going to lose playing time when Keppinger comes back.

Not if Keppinger comes back and plays 3B, then EEEEEncarnacion would be the one losing playing time. If Hairston keeps this up, that's what I think will happen.

He's been a great fill-in for Furcal the last couple of weeks. Let's hope his production continues.

He's a super UT so I wouldn't doubt that he gets his at bats when Keppinger comes back.

over the last few weeks ive been high on Hairston. i picked him when Keppinger went on the DL so i could use him in my MI spot. hes been batting leadoff since Bruce came up to replace Patterson. i figured hes someone who could stick even when Keppinger returns, but looking at some stats i dont think so anymore. his home/away splits are so different..
home- .450 AVG/ .500 OBP/ .667 SLG/ 1.167 OPS
away- .175 AVG/ .209 OBP/ .200 SLG/ .409 OPS
he also has .393 BABIP.

id say hes someone to sell high right now.

I don't think there's any way you can "sell high" on a guy like Hairston. Nobody will pay anything for him. You just have to ride the streak while it lasts and then drop him.

I just hope that Furcal is back by the time his streak ends. So far, so good, since he's given me the Runs and SBs I was counting on from Furcal.
