He's been on my bench for awhile, and tonight's numbers of 8 innings 3.38 era 11ks 1.12 whip caught my eye to say the least

Anyone watch the game? How did he look velocity wise and control etc... I saw that all of the runs he gave up where in the first inning... is he startable yet, or should I wait for more consistency? He's already hurt my roto team so much i'm sort of gun shy... and last time he pitched a gem against the giants the next game I put him in he got killed...

what do you think? Is Brett Myers back????

Myers had awful control in the first, and the damage could have been much worse. However, the wind was blowing out and that had a little bit to do with a couple of the hits in the first inning.

In the next few innings his control was back...not sure about the velocity...I don't think they show that on TV in Philly. After the 5th, the game was pretty much over and I stopped watching the game...I'm sure there was little to no pressure on him with all that run support.

I'll see his next game live on J-Roll MVP Bobblehead day, I could probably give you a better answer on Wednesday.

Man people really love to overreact to 1 game around here don't they?

Myers has hardly been horrible at home this season. He came into the game with a 4.31 ERA / 1.24 WHIP at home in 5 games. Like I said not horrible, but not quite as good as you want to see from him. Another thing to note is he's had trouble putting back to back good outings, similar to tonight together this season. I think you can see tonights game as encouraging, but he's been bad enough that unless you're an extreme gambler you should probably wait and see if he can do it again before jumping back on the bandwagon. As a Phillies fan I'm pulling for him, but its too soon to say he's back.

Okay, I have a question.

Myers is a FA in my league.

If you had Joe Blanton and Myers was availible would you take drop Blanton for Myers?

Im not conviced either are really that great but does Myers have more upside then Blanton?

I don't know about Blanton, but I believe we've seen the worst of Myers...

Converting from closer back to starter probably got him off to a rough start.

Wrong forum for adds/drops, but I'll indulge...give me Myers over Snell. Phillies are a better team.

Not only wrong forum, but an unfortunate timid sense of judgment. Why do people not just take a gamble? Snell, who has been terribly awful this year, is doing squat for anyone's team. If the guy is on the Pirates, has pretty much just McLouth and Bay for offense, and hasn't been the K machine he's been known to be... why not just drop the guy for some other name-value with potential?

Myers has been putting together a few so-so outings that might mean he's bouncing back. Not assuredly so, of course, but he's got at least the same numbers upside as Snell. On a better team with a scary offense, the guy is just as scoopable as Tim Wakefield since he also provides a bad taste in the mouth and yet you hope for some good games.

I think Myers will be serviceable for the rest of the year but won't be necessarily automatic. I agree with Commence8 in that he was shaking off some rust and/or stretching out.
