Can over 5000 people be wrong on Blake Dewitt?

Postby Y`s Guy » Thu May 29, 2008 11:36 pm

In my two major leagues I do not own him. But he has been dropped in the league that I commish and I am looking at grabbing him.

In Yahoo leagues over the last two days over 5000 people have dropped him. Do the Dodgers have someone coming to replace him? Am I missing something?

This kid has some value.

The guy has been solid since coming up, but they do have Andy LaRoche in the minors as well and you have to figure they will give him a shot as he was the front runner for the 3B job before getting hurt. Not to mention old man Nomar is still aorund somewhere. But I would still grab him.

I own him in my 14 team league but I will be dropping him once Barmes comes off the DL and will pick up LaRoche to stash away. I think it is just a matter of time before he is called up because they have been trying him at different positions in the minors to help get him here faster. Not that he shouldn't be here now but it will give the Dodgers more options when he gets called back up.

I actually had him opening day but dropped him to grab Murphy when I had an OF go down (Not that Im complaining about Murphy at all). I think he is on a clock as the starter but I would definitely grab him in a dynasty since there is talk he could wind up as the 2B there next year, giving him a nice value jump. If he does take over for Kent I could see him as a top 10 2B potentially.

Remember that public leagues are not as deep. So if a player does not play every day, the thinking is to just pick up a regular everyday player, who will put up more stats due to more playing time. So those people may be entirely wrong.

I think it's DeWitt's job to lose up until Laroche is deemed about ready. It'll take a while for Nomar to come all the way back (and even then, the injuries are starting to rear their ugly heads). DeWitt is better than Laroche defensively (even though Laroche gives the best of both worlds with the bat), but he's been equally impressive with the bat thus far and has surprisingly flashed a bit of power, not bad for the perception that scouts labeled him as needing more hitting seasoning. Should be interesting to see how Joe will handle the 3B situation if Andy Laroche proves he's ready to contribute again.

.455 OBP more than makes up for a .267 BA if you ask me, especially for a player as young as LaRoche.
