Who else thinks the NL has a pretty good chance in the ASG?

Postby jealousblues » Thu May 29, 2008 5:25 pm

I think they take it this year

they will have great pitching: Webb, Haren, Santana, Peavy, Lincecum, Sheets
i guess the Pen will be: Lidge, Wagner?, Saito?
we should have great bench players too. I say we take it this year.
C: [soto] McCann, Martin
1b: [berkman] Pujols, Lee, Howard/fielder (though they stink so far)
2: [utley] Phillips, Uggla
3b: [chipper] Wright, Atkins? Aram, Zim?
ss: [hanram] Tejada, Rollins, Furcal, Reyes, Tulo (if not for injury),
OF:[fuku, soriano, griffey] Beltran, Braun, Holliday, Lee, Pence, Francouer, Dunn, McClouth

(the guys in brackets are the leading vote getters in the NL right now, so I cant mess with them)

any other thoughts suggestions?

The NL is certainly improving, and any team can win in any given game, but Fuku and Griffey in your starting OF?? :-b :-P

this is why i HATE the all star game. for the most part, it's a popularity contest, which is why the sox and yanks start 4-5 players every year, and why griffey is starting right now. how fuku is leading in nl all star of votes is really mind boggling to me, he's not popular or doing anything special. friggen cubs fans.

Of course they have a chance, because the best 20 some odd players in the NL are good enough to compete with anyone. Both leagues have a chance at winning every year, despite the AL's continued dominance.

Agreed. I think this year with Johan and Haren moving to the NL, the AL's pitching staff will be shaky, that is why I give the NL a slight edge, but it really is pretty unpredictable.

It's the All-Star Game. I don't really take it seriously.

voting aside, if we look at the best players overall, an dnot just the first two months of the season, the NL in my opinion is actually stronger, especially in the IF:

russ martin, mccann
pujols, howard, prince, berkman, texiera
utley, uggla,
reyes, hanley, rollins, tejada
wright

in the infield, the AL is clearly better at third with Arod, Miggy and at Catcher. But those aren't that huge.

The OF is an equalizing force, and relief pitching. But I don't think the AL is that dominant. All pretty much dominates in 1b, 2b, SS talent.
