Jorge Campillo-Braves 5th starter? Any value?

Postby gatorgreenwell » Thu May 29, 2008 12:42 pm

Is Jorge Campillo now the Bravos' 5th starter? If so, does he have the tools to be effective there?

I was wondering the same thing...thanks for posting the question. I haven't heard anything about his future with the Braves.

He's got 4 K's through 2 innings against MIL already. His stats for the year look pretty good although it is a small sample size....

The concerning part is thathe is 30 years old is basically getting his first taste at the bigs. It would be unusual fo ra guy that took 10 years to get up to be a start, but he is lights out on the year. Right now he has a perfect game through 3 innings with 5 Ks. He has more than a K per inning on the year with an ERA and WHIP uboth under 0.90.

I just looked to pick him up, but he has a rough upcoming schedule.

Not sure how the game will finish, but Campillo has pitched 4 innings today so far vs. the Brew Crew, 5K, 2 hits, 0ER. Does anyone know any specifics/more detailed history about this guy from Tijuana? I've been sitting on Rich Hill until I find someone actually worth dropping him for, and I like this guy's stats, and the team he plays for a lot thus far. But he has no track record...

First time watching Campillo pitch, his stats are surely misleading 27K/31.1IP BAA.189 (before today's game), I was expecting to see a fireballer, but instead saw another Livan Hernandez...all about movement & control, lots of offspeed stuff to keep batters off-balanced.
I say ride him while he is hot, coz the league will catch up to him fast once they have a couple more looks.......
I will pass if your league has a limited number of moves.

His best pitch is his change, it's what he uses to strike people out. I have on watch but I won't pick him up yet. Mainly because he has 3 blisters and left his last game early cause of it. He's a "watch" in a 10 or under league and a "low buy" in a 12 man league.
