I don't live in the area, but I heard quite a while back why Leyland doesn't bat Cabrera in the No. 3 hole. Leyland was talking about how he liked a certain amount of speed in the No. 3 hitter, which Cabrera clearly doesn't have. He was talking about how his prototypical three hitter hit for power and had a decent amount of speed. I really don't blame him, but it was getting a little ridiculous at times not batting Cabrera earlier in the order. He also displayed that he believed in this philosophical idea to be an absolute, meaning he always uses it. I'll see if I can find anything about it on-line, but I recall that information from ESPN radio.
I'm a huge tigers fan, but this is getting downright ridiculous.
Cabrera is one of the top 5 hitters in baseball (and they are paying him as such). He has been going through the season without much fanfare, that is until he moved up in the order and starting hitting like he Always has throughout his career, and Detroit started winning baseball games!
I have liked Leyland, but he needs to stop playing favorites and babying players. I'm not just saying this because they've struggled to this point. The best hitter on the team is Cabrera, bat him 3rd and build your team/lineup around him.
I hope he is doing this to showcase Thames so we can trade him for a solid pitcher at the deadline...

F trading Thames. We should move Renteria to Toronto (looking for SS) for Burnett. Then we can start Santiago there. I'd rather do that.
