Troy Percival collapsed on the mound after striking out Brandon Boggs on Wednesday. Percival apparently injured himself after planting his left leg. He stood up and started limping around, and even tried to throw another pitch, but ended up heading to the clubhouse. It's unclear just how serious the injury is, but Dan Wheeler would likely assume the closing job if Percival misses time. Al Reyes is another candidate.
The fact that he collapsed and was limping would seem to indicate that best case he misses a couple days, but at his age a DL stint seems a real possiblity, but we'll have to wait for a more detailed report after he's been checked out. Scoop up Wheeler now if he's available, just in case.

wow, you gave entirely too little info to answer that definitively, knowing nothing about your league or your situation beyond those 2 other players. If you have better options and garko is a spare part you can live without then it might be worth it. Based on the initial report I'd think Percival will at least land on the DL, but for how long? No idea. If he doesn't land on the DL then I'd be surprised because when was the last time you saw a pitcher collapse on the mound and then limp around when he did get up and not land on the DL?
i heard it was a hammy...
I watched it and it looked like a hammy to me. It didn't look like his ankle hit awkwardly or anything like that. I'd say the only way a guy would collapse from that position if the ankle is fine would be a hamstring tear or something devastating happening to the knee. I don't mean to sound too pessimistic or anything, but it looked pretty bad to me. Hopefully, for Percival's sake, it wasn't as bas as it looked.
thanks, i know the post was short, i had abotu four seconds to write it. but that was all i wanted to know, if wheeler was worth cutting a spare part. and i did. thanks. this looks worse for Percival than when they first highlighted it.
An MRI on Troy Percival's injured leg reportedly came back clean. Rays executive VP Andrew Friedman says that the team doesn't believe the injury is "anything significant," and that it won't "linger into a month or months." The team hasn't decided whether or not to put him on the DL, but only expects him to miss the minimum 15 days if they do.
I picked up Wheeler for insurance. I think they put him on the DL just to be cautious. I mean this is the second time he's missed time for this hammy. He's like 75 years old, so he could probably use the extra time.
