Max Scherzer...?

Postby lachlanoddy » Wed May 28, 2008 10:02 am

Does anyone know anything about this guys outlook for this season...?

Seems to me like he was pitching pretty good in the rotation but has now gone back to the 'pen...?

My league has no recent updates on him at all...

Thanks folks.

IMO he will stay in the pen until an AZ starter either goes down or becomes a liability. He pitched 2.2 scoreless innings a couple days ago with 4 Ks and in my league at least his SP/RP eligibility make him well worth a roster spot. We use holds but it's unlikely he will contribute there since AZ already has a good setup system. His main value for the moment will be in Ks, ERA / WHIP assistance and the odd vultured W here and there.

I actually used my waiver on Scherzer and I'm still alright with it. I feel like he's as good a prospect as Kershaw and also as good a prospect to get to 10 starts this season. After all, the Dodgers have Schmidt returning from injury and I wouldn't be surprised if they gave Kershaw a little bullpen time as well (they treated Chad Billingsley the same way, though admittedly he didn't do as well as a rookie). We'll see if Kershaw can continue to pitch well--if he starts walking people and puts up a 4-ish ERA in his next few starts, and Schmidt gets healthy, there might be a bump in the rotation.

Me too. I don't believe I wasted my #1 at all. Preserving Scherzer now simply means he is more likely to be effective when fantasy playoff time arrives.

scherzer could be a good combo guy. i know in deeper leagues, i like those sp/rp titled guys, cause u can pop him in the starter slot when he's in the pen, and help your era, whip, and strikeouts.

you'll find plenty of discussion on Scherzer here on this site and others. the only question surrounding him was whether he would stay with the team when Davis came back or go back to AAA. He stuck with the team and as expected will be pitching in middle relief until the next Dback starter gets injured.

I used my waiver on Scherzer and am not hating life right now. I'd be happier if he was in the rotation, obviously, but will contribute in Ks, ERA, and WHIP and will get the vulture wins and maybe even save here and there. Sometimes you win big with the waiver priority, some times you crap out. This looks like it will be in the middle.
