I thought my team was pretty legit, I look it over and it looks pretty good to me, but I'm in 2nd to last place. Figured I'd toss my roster up and see what you guys thought:
C- Dioner Navarro 1B- Kevin Youkilis 2B- Dustin Pedroia 3B- Jorge Cantu SS- Jimmy Rollins OF- Grady Sizemore OF- Carlos Beltran OF- Jacoby Ellsbury Util- Juan Pierre Util- Jarrod Saltalamacchia Bn- Skip Schumaker Bn- Julio Lugo Bn- Orlando Hudson DL- Troy Tulowitzki
SP- Justin Verlander SP- Jon Lester SP- Daniel Cabrera SP- Jair Jurrjens RP- Jonathan Papelbon RP- John Smoltz RP- BJ Ryan P- Jonathan Broxton P- Chris Young P- Clayton Kershaw Bn- Clay Buchholz Bn- Pedro Martinez
In all honesty, your team ain't great. You have a couple good guys on offense but you also have a lot of bums (I'm looking at your utils and bench), and your pitching is only mediocre. I'd try to shore up your hitting or pitching by trading one for the other, as it's better to be better in one of the two than equally bad in both. Hold onto Verlander though, as he will turn it around.
I don't think thats a bad team at all. Its just that you have a whole lot of players who are elite, but playing like crap.
C- Dioner Navarro - Playing better than almost all catchers. 1B- Kevin Youkilis - Having a good year so far. 2B- Dustin Pedroia - Decent year, maybe not up to expectations, but still decent. 3B- Jorge Cantu - Hopefully hasn't been on your team all year. SS- Jimmy Rollins - Getting hits, but lacking pop. OF- Grady Sizemore - Playing like crap somewhat. OF- Carlos Beltran - No pop, RBIs are decent. OF- Jacoby Ellsbury - Great year so far, on pace for about 120 Runs and 60+ SBs. Util- Juan Pierre - Doesn't play often enough to be your Util unless you watch every night. Util- Jarrod Saltalamacchia - Huge disappointment this year. Bn- Skip Schumaker - Nice real player, but has tailed off fantasy wise lately. Bn- Julio Lugo - Blah Bn- Orlando Hudson - Blah with a little upswing lately. DL- Troy Tulowitzki - Ouch
SP- Justin Verlander - Been terrible, but will turn around. SP- Jon Lester - Has been above average even without the no-no. SP- Daniel Cabrera - Off and on. If he keeps his walks down he's great, last start scares me. SP- Jair Jurrjens - Been great so far. RP- Jonathan Papelbon - Excellent so far. RP- John Smoltz - Ouch RP- BJ Ryan - Excellent addition to Papelbon. P- Jonathan Broxton - Hasn't lived up to the hype this year. Good player though. P- Chris Young - Decent. Hurt though. P- Clayton Kershaw - Will be great. Bn- Clay Buchholz - Could be great. Bn- Pedro Martinez - Should be at least servicable.
-To me it looks like you have a decent amount of good players, but it seems like at the time being you seriously lack pop on the offensive side which is killing HRs, RBIs, and OPS. Thats almost half of the offensive cats. Verlander has been no doubt killing you just as he has plagued most of the owners. Your pitching at the time being is really hurting and is not overall impressive outside of the Closer spot. However, you didn't mention how big the league is and if two closers are enough to compete in saves.....I would assume it is not. Until Beltran, Sizemore, Verlander, and Rollins come around.....or at least most of them you will be hurting. If Kershaw is stellar and Pedro is Pedro or old, you will be okay until those other guys turn it around.
I would just say be patient and see where you are at in about 6 weeks. If you are still really hurting, just sell one or two of your big names for "this year" players and worry about next year next year. Good luck!
you've got a lot of guys who are going to turn it around, definitly have to try and upgrade some of your infield, especially cantu, but other than that it looks pretty good to me
