only if Franklin stumbles. He'll probably get a few saves here and there, but LaRussa has been non-committal in trusting him with the exclusive role.
Maybe some time in the 2nd half.

My thoguhts also, I just needed to here some other say it.
Got any ideas for a sleeper closer over the next few weeks. Torres is gone and I am thinking of picking up Gagne and sitting on him for a week or two until I see how things pan out.

Perez most likely won't close until the latter part of the season. This doesen't mean he wont have value as a reliever the rest of the way

Think John Broxton

Soriano. Watch Smoltz closely to see how he does. I personally feel like he is going to end up back on the DL and Soriano is going to run away with the job...and yes Perez could be the closer by the end of the year and would be worth adding in any format as good as he looks right now.

personally i think that franklin is pitching way over his head right now. he walks too many batters, he doesn't strike out enough batters, and his gb/fb rate doesn't justify not having given up a HR yet. now, he is the current closer and will have to blow a good number of games before perez would be inserted. just keep in mind that if it starts going downhill for franklin, it will go downhill quickly with how lucky he has been.
thanks to madison/go_jays_go for the slick sig!

i get the feeling that soriano will probably be back on the DL before smoltz. check out the update on him in the closers' thread.
