Gil Meche

I have Gil Meche in a 4x4 260.00 mixed at $ 5 I am seriously thinking of keeping him at that price.He had a great first half but than tired and finished badly. I think he will be much stronger this year and pitching in that ball park with nice run support. he won 15 games last year pitched 186 innings. They over used him.
My feeling is if he can get 13-15 wins have and era of about 4.00 and a whip of about 1.350 he will be a good deal. What are your thoughts about this?

I meant to add that ESPN early pitcher rankings have him at #48 just after Ponson and before Sabathia and Buerhle. They must think he will be a decent starter.

Meche had not pitched an entire season for a few years, and that likely accounted for some of his 2nd half decline. I would expect his 2004 numbers to be like his 2003 1st half numbers. I think a bigger question about Meche is not his 2nd half numbers, but his injury history.

He averaged less than 6 IP per start, so I don't think he was over-used. And the difference between his home/road stats is like night and day. Word on the street is that Seattle has made adjustments to the park and it is not as much of a pitchers park as it was the past few seasons. Something about the backdrop in CF making pitches easier to see.

I'd be worried about having him, personally. He was absolutely horrible on the road and in the second half. If Safeco does indeed revert to a more neutral park, he could be in trouble. Add the injury concern, and the fact that he couldn't even throw 6 IP per start without fatigueing, and you have one more headache that I'm going to avoid.

Wrong. He made 15 starts in the minors in 2002 before been moved to the bullpen.

Meche is solid and as a 5th starter will face favorable match-ups. He has electric stuff and last year's first half half was just a taste of his potential barring injury. My opinion is that you will see something like this line at season's end: 16w-160k-3.85era.
