Delmon Young

Postby jake_twothousandfive » Sun May 25, 2008 9:32 pm

189 ABs and 0 HRs. As a Twins fan I was very excited to be landing a potential superstar by getting Delmon Young as part of the Matt Garza trade in the off-season. Besides his lack of power he has preformed pretty much how I expected him to... .270 BA, 8 SBs, and quality defense. Still, almost 200 AB's and no home runs isn't what you'd expect from someone of his ability.

I thought we'd see a 20/20 season from him this year along with an average around .280-.290. I know he's only 22 and has a huge amount of growth potential but I'm starting to wonder when/if he'll turn the corner this year.

Does anyone have any idea what's wrong with him right now??

It's obviously a disappointment. But besides the HRs he's doing okay, so I'm being patient. Well, I just picked him up off waivers, so it's easy to be patient with a freebie.

I've written this in some other threads on him, but the ridiculously glaring stat right now is his GB% of around 63%.

Good sluggers are generally in the 35% range, obviously you can't hit homers if you don't get the ball in the air a lot (a few guys are exceptional and can still hit 35 dingers w/ 40-45% GB rates just b/c their raw power is that exceptional that when they really get the bat on the ball it goes a long way). Even Juan Pierre is around 55%, so it's absurd that Delmon almost always puts the ball on the ground.

I have to start him today in a H2H league, with no other options because it's Thursday :-o

I've been holding on for some sort of sign, anything, that he'll live up to his potential this year. However, I'm growing more weary every passing day. I think he's next on my drop list if need be...

Please stop sucking, Delmon :~(
