Great Brewers Info

Postby KPucks » Fri Feb 27, 2004 7:37 pm

This is from Jayson Stark's "Rumblings and Grumblings" on ESPN.com. It was just too funny to not post.

Let it never be said that the Brewers aren't thinking positive. They gave World Series MVP incentive clauses to five players this winter -- Ben Sheets, Wes Helms, Ben Grieve, Danny Kolb and Gary Bennett.

That is some good stuff.

Somehow I don't think that those clauses were deal-breakers.

Wes Helms??? seriously?
The front office must have had a good laugh typing that one up.

8-o

If I were the Brewers, I'd be pretty confident those clauses won't have to be paid. Lol. :-D

I wonder if the clauses become void if they're traded......... :-?

One of them could be traded to a contender and have a Pat Borders-esque World Series outta nowhere and actually get the incentive. That'd be something :-D

But if they have to win it with the Brewers they might as well have given them incentives for a 100 HR season or a 1000 K's.

Good thinking - I missed that possibility. Interesting question...

Has any other team ever used these insentives before? Or are the Brew Crew the first?
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. -Crash Davis

Yes, other teams have used, and currently use those incentives.
