Traded for a bag of balls....

Postby aramis16 » Fri May 23, 2008 4:39 pm

...well not quite, but you get the idea. Wonder how that guy feels. Even more, I wonder how the guys on the other team feel when they'd rather take ten bats than one of them haha.

People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.

Crazy Canucks. :-D

Like he said, it will be a great story if he makes it to the bigs one day. A fight at 17 and he's not allowed back in the country? Must have been a heck of a fight.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Minor Leaguer traded for 10 Bats

McALLEN, Texas - During three years in the low minors, John Odom never really made a name for himself.

That sure changed this week -- he's the guy who was traded for a bunch of bats.

The Vipers once tried to acquire a pitcher for 1,500 blue seats when they were renovating their stadium...

HAHAHAHA! This team must be a blast to work for.

They couldn't get the kid into Canada, so he was basically a loss to them. Why not get $655 worth of bats out of the deal.

I heard a story once that a minor league team traded a player for a few packs of beer. I thought that was pretty funny. :-D

This is nothing more than a publicity stunt. I feel kind of bad for the player.

I think the Braves got Kerry Lightenberg from an independent league team for something like 6 dozen baseballs and two dozen bats.

Exactly. What were they supposed to do? He couldn't play for them so at least they got something out of the deal.

I guess I should think twice before assuming bats is just slang for an offensive player in the future.
