Miguel Cabrera... Lazy? Or is it a bit of racism?

His laziness (perceived or actual) is soley derived from his weight/work ethic IMO...like Mo Vaughn, Bartolo Colon, David Wells, or Jack Cust. We're not saying that you believe he is lazy because he is latin...we are saying that writing about other people saying it is because he is latin is irresponsible without something that supports that viewpoint.
[/quote]

Just to reiterate... Ugh, I've created a monster and I probably deserve what I've wrought. I apologize. But as I read my first post, what I was asking was the fact that some of the American population hold a stereotypical few of Latins as Lazy - And regrettably they do - was this being used against Cabrera. And if I need to find articles that sadly back up this point of view that some "ugly Americans" hold, not that Cabrera is lazy or because it's that he's Latin, but that some Americans associate Latins with Laziness - then we live in different Americas and I want to live in yours. I DESPISE IT and DISAGREE WITH IT. But the stereotype exists, you see it weekly in T.V. shows etc...- and could these misguided, ugly views have been brought to bare on Cabrera because he has been called lazy in the past - which the next poster confirmed with his ESPN article?

If, as it seems that I have, did not make the broadness of my question clear - then again, I really do apologize. I was not saying that I or anyone else had directly called Cabrera Lazy because he was Latin, I was asking that IS the "ugly American stereotype" that Latins are lazy being used against Cabrera or simply was he off to a slow start? Or is he lazy? I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry if I was unclear on that.

Oh, and I'm fat and Lazy and Caucasian.

Now please, again, I beg you - put this thread to it's death!

I think people are understanding your question and aren't accusing you of being a racist for asking it.

Curt Schilling is overweight, especially by professional baseball standards... but I certainly wouldn't call him lazy.
What about all of the profusely overweight linemen in the NFL, are they lazy too :-?

LONG LIVE THE THREAD :-b

No one is accusing Snacks of being racist, rather they are saying it was a desperate grasp at straws to play the race card on Miggy's behalf. That is where you made your mistake, wasnt a very solid post to begin with and the cafe made you pay for it.

I'm as guilty of anyone of knowing what I mean to say, but not always conveying it very clearly in my post. So I'm not about to bash anyone for being unclear. But this thread has really spiraled out of control at this point. :-D

Thank you to the Moderator - and I agree with everyone who has said that I didn't voice or put my question correctly. But please, understand, that I was not "desperately grasping at straws to play the race card against Miggy." I was merely asking if sad, sick generalizations were at play. With that being said, and even though I don't know you, I really don't want you going away thinking that I was playing any race card on anyones behalf. I asked a serious question in what turned out to be a stupid, dumb manner - I deserve to bashed and accept it like a man - so keep on bashing. Now I've got another question... JK :-D

Seriously, not to move the subject away from Baseball, but as a side note: I lived mostly in Amsterdam and London for the past 10 years and just moved back to America full-time and it's kind of strange coming back here and hearing how some people are talking about the presidential elections. I saw this video of some people in West Virginia (and if you live in West Virginia I'm not generalizing, just talking about the 5 people in the video) and they were adamant and up front about Why they would never vote for Obama. Kind of a shock to the system.

There is plenty of racism and xenophobia in England and Denmark, so I'm not sure why that would be such a shock to you. Maybe you hung out in better circles than the kinds of people for whom color of skin or national origin is a big deal. That's good.

I've spent some time in France lately and I can tell you they're having a lot of problems with African immigration, legal and illegal. Frenchmen are fed up, the immigrants are fed up, and tensions continue to grow. It's happening everywhere, and as humans become more and more mobile, we're going to have to learn to get along with people who don't look and talk like us.

And yes, it happens in America, too. ;-)

lineman in the nfl aren't lazy in the same way, as they need the weight and are encoruaged to have it for the most part. I can't think of how weight helps miguel, just hurts.

laziest phillie ever? The Krukker.
