He's going to need surgery to straighten his septum. How serious is that?

It's not a serious operation, it's just to help him breathe better. I'd probably peg his return to be in mid-July at the latest, end of June at the earliest. Here's an analysis I found that explains the injury, surgery, and recovery: ... cb4ce59a15

"I have a headache, but given the circumstances, I probably feel as good as I could," Young said. "There's a lot of pressure, a lot of swelling and a constant headache."

Has anyone heard any up to date news on Chris Young? Did the surgery go well? Anything?

Yeah, I've been hoping for an update for a while now too. Anyone hear anything?

I also had Smoltz, Gallardo, and still have Dice-K. Top 4 starters gone by early June. What are the odds?

Young plays catch, Mets in town
By Bill Center

June 5, 2008

No one was more surprised than Bud Black.

Happily surprised, we might add.

While speaking with the media before Thursday night's Mets-Padres game, Black looked out onto the field and saw pitcher Chris Young playing catch.

"That's a great sign," said Black.

Young still has a long way to go before he fully recovers from being struck in the face by an Albert Pujols line drive on May 21 at Petco Park. But after an examine with an ear, nose and throat specialist yesterday, Young was given the approval to play catch.

Jake Peavy, meantime, will pitch in a simulated game Saturday and could return to the rotation next week. Peavy has been sidelined with an elbow strain since May 14.
