He'll be in the pen because the Yanks have given up on the season (playoffs wise). There is no doubt this guy's a starter next season. And a great one for years to come.

Just like it was a given that going to see Andrew was the end of the world? ;-7

I believe DWM said that it's never good news when you go see Doctor Andrews. And guess what, it wasn't good news. Joba has been out for weeks. He never said seeing Doctor Andrews would "be the end of the world" or anything like that.

Beckett went to see Andrews as well...I think they said he didn't have any major damage but it could come up again during the playoffs.

No, they just took their time with him. It wasn't a serious injury if he was able to return in less than a month.

So, what are the odds he's in the starters role next year? I have a decision to make between him and Lackey as my pitcher keeper. It was an easy decision about a month ago. If Mariano decides to call it a career in the offseason I think the Yanks would keep him in the pen. Obviously that is probably not going to happen, but what if he says one more season? I could see them putting Joba in the setup role. There's just so many question marks around this guy that makes me want to throw him back in the draft.

Joba will be a starter next year for sure. I don't think he's a better keeper than Lackey though.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said it was possible that Chamberlain could start next season as a reliever. Chamberlain opened the 2008 season as the setup for Mariano Rivera before moving into the rotation.

"We had an innings limit this year that he won't meet, so could he exceed that innings limit next year? We wouldn't want to do that," Cashman said before the Yankees played Tampa Bay. "We'll talk about that, obviously, at a more appropriate time. We have to protect the player."
