A few weeks back I traded Phillips/Volquez/Loney for Utley and Howard.

In 2004, I decided after much deliberation to not keep Josh Beckett after his World Series MVP performance. Instead I went with a guy who only started 18 games the previous season. Johan Santana.

Of course, Beckett seems like a perfectly good option now, but remember all those years of blister trouble.

And Johan? Well, he's Johan. :-)

No great ones come to mind but my memory barely stretches back last year

Last Year:
- Kendrick for Cano
- Drafting Maggs 10th round (after Baldelli %-6 ), Russell Martin in the 20th
- Picking up Beltre at the ASB off WW
- Picking up Cust, riding him for 3 weeks then trading him for Francouer

This Year:
- Picking up Volquez 1 day after missing out on Cueto (I had the #2 Waiver :-D)
- Accidentally drafting Uggla over Rich Hill ;-D :-D B-)

Short Term:

Last year in a 18 (now 16) team dynasty, Scott Olsen and Anibal Sanchez for Lackey/Napoli/Otsuka.
Lackey carried me through the playoffs, all the way to 2nd. He was literally the difference maker in 2 finals weeks. (Then I showed tremendous loyalty by flipping him for Alex Gordon :-D )

Long Term:

My favourite from this year which could end up topping that.........

20 team dynasty Granderson/Swisher/C.Cordero for Kemp/Butler/Gallardo. I think I'll be crowing about that one at the end of 2009.

I traded Chris Carpenter (instead of Jake Peavy) and the draft rights to Daisuke Matsuzaka for Felix Hernandez and the draft rights to Brandon Webb last season about a week before Chris Carpenter went down for the season.
